Treating Josh’s Alopecia with SMP

The results are remarkable

As a Scalp Artist I know that every client is unique, and for every client their first contact with me is going to be a key factor in how comfortable they feel about going ahead and having SMP.

With Josh it was slightly different, I had previously worked on a friend of his who had fairly extensive male pattern baldness. So, Josh already knew my work and the results I can achieve. The only thing was, he never thought he would be needing my help. He had a great head of hair with no signs of any thinning and no hereditary hair loss in his family. But literally overnight he started to suffer with Alopecia areata. This condition presents itself with random patches of hair loss that can come and go. The condition is often connected with stress but there has been little research into exactly what causes it and even less into finding a solution or cure for it. In this case the patches were pretty large from day one and impossible for him to disguise with his remaining hair. He was left with having to wear a hat continuously to cover it up.

Josh called me and we arranged a consultation appointment as soon as we could. He was understandably concerned and worried about how it looked. We are all vulnerable when it comes to our appearance and perhaps even more so when we are young. I could see how unhappy it was making him and that in itself is not conducive to the condition becoming less aggressive. Happily, I knew I could get a decent resolution to his situation as long as he was prepared to shave his remaining hair down to a short length. Josh was ok with that and he realised that was going to be a better look straight away. Once we had the hair shaved down, we could get started with his first treatment session, filling the bald patches with SMP to match in with his unaffected hair. In subsequent sessions we addressed the entire scalp to future proof against more hair loss, with the knowledge that Alopecia areata is a moving target. Bald areas can regrow hair and other areas may shed so you need to take that into consideration when using SMP to deal with it.

Ultimately Josh had 4 appointments, but he looked and felt better from the first session. It’s always a pleasure being able to deliver on your client expectations and every SMP practitioner will know how great that feeling is. It’s especially nice when your client has been plunged into the turmoil of this type of hair loss, to be able to turn thing around in a relatively short time.
